Babies born in the winter months need baby clothes that can be layered. Because winter is different everywhere – some of us have snow and some of us don’t we need to make sure that new babies are kept cosy but are not over heating in the clothes we choose for them.

Being able to layer the clothes a new baby wears is the best way to approach our seasonal differences.

Body Suits and Sleepsuits for winter babies

Body suits are really important for babies to wear in the winter months. A body suit is really good because some have long sleeves and some don’t but they all cover baby’s tummy which is really important.

Mothercare and Boots all have great selections of body suits that come in multipacks so you can choose colours, patterns and even fabrics depending on your own personal preference for your baby. Newborn babies may also prefer to be really snug and wear complete sleep suits. Grobag design a really interesting sleepsuit with integrated socks that mean baby doesn’t need to suffer the effects of floppy feet – many of us buy sleepsuits that are slightly too big for our babies with the belief that baby will grow into it so we end up with leg lengths that are simply too long. This is more dangerous when baby is on the move so make sure the sleep suit you buy is the right size for your baby.

The great thing about a sleepsuit in winter is that if you are out and about, you can very easily transfer baby straight to bed in a sleepsuit from the car without having to change them and risk hem waking up. Just be aware that if you have your baby in a sleepsuit for night-time, try not to risk making them too hot by also putting them into sleeping bags. Sleeping bags come in different tog weights just like your duvet cover does so make sure you use the right tog for the season.
