Baby Nightwear– Sleep Suits for Babies

When looking to buy nightwear for babies, it’s important to think about the time of year, the temperature in your house and whether your baby is very young.

There is a huge choice of nightwear available online so you should find something that suits your needs. Considerations for choice should also include whether your baby sleeps in a sleeping bag or under a sheet or whether you co-sleep. If you co-sleep consideration needs to be given to making sure baby does not overheat when sleeping next to you. And certainly if you co-sleep you shouldn’t be using your duvet.

When a baby is younger you may decide to have baby sleep in an all in one sleep suit. Sleep suits are a great way of travelling with baby too – if you’re making a return journey in the evening, there is nothing better than having baby travel in his sleep suit in order to put him straight to bed on your return.

Sleep suits come in many styles most having poppers around the legs and nappy areas. Some romper suits have poppers at the back so although you may think it looks sweet, remember that you need to have easy access to baby’s nappy during the night too.

If your house is very warm, you could have baby sleeping in a cotton body suit either with or without a sleeping bag. Cotton body suits come with tee shirt style sleeves or long sleeves so short sleeved body suits can be great for warmer weather, while long sleeve body suits combine well with sleeping bags in cooler weather.

As baby gets older, you can look at putting him into soft cotton pyjamas – just make sure that the elastic around the waist is not too restrictive and that baby still has room to stretch. Pyjama tops definitely should not have poppers at the back of the neck and pyjama bottoms should not have ties at the front.

Sleep suits can still be used with older babies but if they are all-in-ones and baby gets too hot, they have no way of cooling down. Like you, baby will look to free his feet in order to cool down.

Little girls look great in night dresses but it’s not advised to put a young baby in a nightdress as it might creep up during the night.

Excellent online stores to look out for some great nightwear for younger babies include The White Company, Mothercare, GroBag, Baby-O, Boden and Igloo Kids.
